Okay, so the stream I was watching cut off three times so I missed some vital chunks of the episode. For example, I missed the build-up to Cornello telling Rose to shoot the brothers, and I don't know how the LOLWUT GIANT CORNELLO thing was resolved. I clearly have to watch the whole thing again. But for now, some thoughts:
-Pacing is still rushed! I could barely process the first half of the episode because it was flying by so fast and there was no time to breath. I spent most of the time wanting to press a rewind button. Though, again, the second half of the episode was much better about this.
-Cornello's voice bothered me. He kinda sounded too old. But maybe it's just because I still remember his voice from the first anime. Also, LOLWUT GIANT BESERKER THING? I don't understand, what was that??
-It was pretty thrilling to see how much of the episode was taken directly from the manga, right down to certain panels, though there were some mild changes too. It didn't have much effect on me though, due to the pacing and other factors. Like that scene where they run away makes me giggle every time in the manga, and they adapted it pretty closely, but they had an odd choice of background music.
-The animation felt really awkward to me in this episode. I mean, I noticed in the previous two episodes that they would take shortcuts at times by leaving the focus on a character's face while other characters are talking or doing things, but it didn't bother me too much since doing stuff like that allowed them to spend their budget on more important scenes. But this episode felt noticeably cheap.
-Gluttony's voice caught me off guard. For so long I'd been reading the manga with his voice from the previous anime in my head. It's going to take me a while to get used to this one. I just hope he can pull off teh cute.
-No complaints on characterization. It was pretty close to the manga aside from LOLWUT CORNELLO and Rose with the gun (I'll hold off on making opinions on those until later). Al is clearly not a softy and Ed is still a cynical devious jerk. I'm happy that they kept some of my favorite lines of his (particularly the allusion to Icarus and "Nope, god hates me, he'll just throw me right back!")
More thoughts will come later. I'm really looking forward to the next episode, but dear god I hope they handle it better than this one. I mean, they better, considering how serious it is and the fact that they'll only have one chapter to adapt rather than two at a time.
EDIT: Oh yeah, and that commercial that had Paku Romi voicing a page from the recent manga? That was awesome. *___*
