-Mom went to Paris for four days in November. She returned with a bunch of freshly baked (albeit smushed from the plane ride) French bread. *__* But while she was away, I cooked for myself. By now I've become rather adept at making chili, fried rice, pasta, omelettes, and curry by myself. Finally getting over some of my uneasiness with raw meat was a step forward, because now I can make anything with ground beef (though I still can't bring myself to handle raw chicken). Today I improvised on making stir fry and it turned out pretty well. :)
-Speaking of food, we made beef stew on Thanksgiving (by my own request), and it was delicious. We also made apple pie, but it...didn't turn out as well.
-For two weeks, I was petsitting a female Daschund named Tako for my mom's coworker (while she and her husband went to visit family in Japan). I took on most of the responsibility of taking care of her. Initially I thought it would be a challenge, because Tako was abused by her previous owners before being rescued, and had abandonment issues. She seemed really depressed the first night, so I let her sleep in my bed with me.
The second night, I had to go to Writer's Group so we were going to leave her alone in the house for a couple of hours. But my mom accidentally turned on the motion detector security alarm by force of habit when we left, and we didn't find out until a few minutes later. So poor Tako-chan had to endure a horrendous screeching noise all alone. DD: We were SO afraid that we had traumatized her even more. But she turned out to be all right. She came to like us and began showing some personality. ♥
Though she was a hassle at times, now I kind of miss her. It made me want to look into getting a pet again. Maybe not this year, but...
Anyway, here are a couple of pictures we took of her: With me. With mom.
I know she looks sad, but whenever I was about to feed her or take her out on walks, she was SO HAPPY and kept running around the house. I swear, if it were possible to use the tail-wagging of excited dogs to generate power, our energy problems would be solved.
-Our old computer got a virus, so I had no access to the internet for a week while it was being cleaned out. Once again I was afraid that I might lose everything I had on there (which included everything I was writing), but we were able to keep all the data, thank goodness. By the time we got it back though, my mom was so fed up with PC's that she impulsively bought a Mac. Which I'm using right now. She's trying to wean me off using the PC, and while I like the Mac, there are still some things I prefer on the PC. :P
-I found out that my grandpa (on my father's side) died. Apparently he died peacefully, which is good. I didn't really know how to feel when I heard, because I wasn't close to him (I was closer to my Japanese grandfather, though he died when I was in middle school). But I felt sorry for my dad, he sounded so heartbroken when he told me... Come to think of it, that's the same reaction I had when my other grandfather died; I cried because my mom was crying. But it is strange to think that I don't have any grandfathers now...and my little sister, Rachel, only met him two times in her life. She doesn't even seem to remember him. D:
-umeko_pyon visited for a weekend. We didn't do anything too exciting, mostly just playing games and watching anime and walking in Georgetown while my mom tried to go on a chocolate binge. But it was fun. :D
-On Friday, we went to see Cirque Du Soleil at the National Harbor, and it was AMAZING. *__* Best circus ever. Would totally go again.
-I, uh...failed NaNoWriMo. Again. I'm such a goddamn LAZY writer (though hell, I was too lazy to even update my LiveJournal, so I guess it's no surprise). I only finished one chapter of my fanfic, which was like...6,000 words. (But, I guess if you look at the total word count of my fanfic as a whole...I've written over 50,000 words since March! :D; That counts for something, right?) But now I definitely need to start focusing on my original novel again...
Next, I will catch up on fandom stuff I procrastinated on posting about. >_>;
