Just finished the GL DVD subs. Overall, the translation is great and better than the fansubs (Order was one of the better groups, but they still made a lot of mistakes). I'm also fond of the DVD menu. A minor annoyance is that they ignore the "Tengen Toppa" part of the title even in the fansubs.
Gurren-dan is now "Team Gurren" (Dai-Gurren-dan is "Team Dai-Gurren," though they don't explain what the "dai" means). Kick reason to the curb blah blah = "Reject common sense to make the impossible possible!" (Which is better than "crazy guns.") Simon calls Kamina "Bro," Kamina calls Simon "blood brother." ♥ Kamina's speeches are fantastic, though a few times I think the word choice is a bit too intelligent for him. The translation is faithful to Nia's formal style of speech. Gokigenyou = "Hail fellow well met!" I barely understand what that means. XD And I'm still giggling over "Who are you, good sir?"
And I have to say, seeing this on my TV with no ghosting and the volume cranked up was amazing. I love this show so much more when I watch it alone. Episode 6 made me crack up this time, maybe because of the translation. Oh Kamina, you idiot. ♥ Can't wait to see this dubbed. ♥
The Emma boxset is also beautiful and amazing. It's going to take me a while to finishing reading the Victorian Gazette. Mom and I have started watching it together, since it's been a few years since she's seen the first season. I want to rewatch Hikaru no Go with her too after this. Major nostalgia. *__*
