Ahh, what a great volume. *__* Volume 7 was fantastic just for the Odoro no Michi chapters, and Volume 6 had that really creepy chapter and the one where all the Mushishi gather together (and Isaza made his second appearance), but I don't think Volume 8 was as impressive? (Not that it was bad, I only say this because I can't remember any of the stories that were in it offhand.) I think Volume 9 will stick out pretty clearly in my mind though, because it includes:
-Adorable elderly couple aww ♥
-Adashino being grabby with Ginko's box lol
-Teenage!Ginko story where he screws up bad and has angst (ahhh this one made me tear up ;__;)
So much love for this series. So much love.
Also, I'd been thinking that FMA has been kinda slow and going all over the place lately, but seeing Volume 19 at the top of the comic ranking and all the positive, enthusiastic reviews for it reaffirms my opinion that it only feels that way because the chapters have been short and I'm reading it on a monthly basis. It definitely reads better in tankoubon format. I mean, just flipping through Volume 19 now, there's a HELL of a lot of stuff going on in here:
-Olivier 'joins' the Dark Side
-Riza lets Roy know about Selim
-The military starts searching for Izumi, Bido heads for Central
-XERXES FLASHBACK, BACKSTORY, QUESTIONS ANSWERED!
-Hohenheim meets Izumi again, we find out he's a Philosopher's Stone
-New chimera characters introduced
-Ed fights Kimbley
-ED IS IMPALED AHHHHHHHHHH ;___;
-AL PASSES OUT AGAIN ;___;
-Ed uses part of his life to fix himself OH GOD I CAN'T LOOK AT THIS AHHHHHHHHH ;___;
-Ed's new chimera buddies find Kimbley's Philosopher's Stone
-Scar's brother's research notes FINALLY decoded! Reverse transmutation circle?!
-We see what the rest of the Roy-tachi have been up to. FUERY! ;___;
-Sloth finishes digging the transmutation circle!
-Return to Lior!
-Hohenheim is badass and declares war on Father!
-Drachma attacks Fort Briggs!
-Zampano apparently turns traitor (but is actually setting a trap for Envy)
As you can see, this volume is PACKED with major events, information, character cameos, and setting up of things to come. I'm not sure how Vol. 20 will compare, but there's still one or two chapters left for any more major happenings and revelations in that volume.
...DUDE SERIOUSLY I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS BETWEEN GREEDLING AND BIDO. GAHHH IS IT NEXT WEEK YET.
EDIT: Somewhat related, but remember how I was trying to get my friend Alex into Mushishi? She is a big Mushishi advocate now, and was telling all the members of the club how pretty it is when we were voting last week. ^^
EDIT 2: Also, my knowledge of kanji must have really gone up recently, because I have barely any problem reading the Mushishi manga now, whereas less than two years ago I needed my dictionary in hand the whole time. And I read a novel by myself WTF?! o.o *only just realizing this*
