Here I am trying to fit in some writing time before going to bed and I can't come up with anything because the damn Native Son book won't get out of my head! I do NOT need to relive that sick, sick decapitation scene again!
PLEASE! Go away! I seriously hope it doesn't turn up in my dreams/nightmares! ><
This reminds me of the time we had to read I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings in 10th grade. Everyone was so disturbed, and I remember crying on the bus after the rape scene. Also, Night. That book killed my soul. And you know what hurt the most? Both of them are true stories.
Why do we even get assigned to these books? Even if we're in high school, not everyone is mature enough to handle this kind of material. Are they trying to send us some kind of message?
(...So says the person who willingly reads the Kino novels for fun. 9_9)
(Edit: Okay, so I enjoyed Battle Royale too. This makes me both a hypocrite and a nutjob.)
