Shades of Gray

Victorian Romance Emma: Second Act, Episode 1

Hmm. It's been over a year since I've read this part of the manga, so I don't remember it all too clearly, but they've changed a lot so far. For one thing, Nanette doesn't exist in the manga and her story took up most of the episode. Actually, I think the entire episode is original to the anime, aside from Emma getting used to her new job. o.o But it does a good job of introducing the new setting and characters, as well as the current situation with William and Eleanor.

Nanette herself kinda annoyed me. But I don't want to dwell on her too much. One thing I do like about this story is that Hans got to play a part. It seems they're going to give Hans a larger role in the anime than in the manga. I have no problem with this, personally. From what I remember, Hans in the manga never did much. He seemed interested in Emma, but other than that he was just...there. And hey, why not give William a 'rival' for Emma's affections? (Though really, there are no romantic rivals in this series. Emma was never interested in a relationship until she met William, and William has never loved Eleanor. Hakim was only a 'threat' for like half an episode.)

Overall, I like how it's going so far. The animation is beautiful as always, and they've kept the old soundtrack, but have also added some new music. Speaking of which, I LOVE the new OP. *__* The OP for the first season was set in London, and so this time they've taken it out to the countryside. And the dancing at the end!! The dancing!!! It's simply gorgeous! ♥

I'm SO looking forward to seeing Erich and Theo in the next episode. I love the Molders family. ♥
