dotdotdot...

Political correctness?

Maybe this is just me being influenced by my Anthropology class, but....

he enlightens others by his greater knowledge about the world. By setting him apart and making him look more modern and advanced, maybe the writer is alluding to this role?

Ginko wears Western style clothing. This doesn't necessarily make his clothes modern. They're modern in an ancient Japanese setting (since people don't start wearing them until they have greater contact with the West), but Western doesn't necessarily mean SUPERIOR or advanced. It just reflects another culture.

Though, I don't really know why Ginko has Western style clothing either....yet.

EDIT: Oh, awesome, episode 12 apparently has Ginko backstory! *just finished episode 10*
