I'm back from New York! I'll post some pictures from my trip and thoughts on episode 14 of FMA later, but first I need to squee over THIS:

Also, the homepage updated with profiles for Ling, Lan Fan, Fu, May, and Shiao May! And yes, that is how their names are being romanized. I assume it will be the same in the eyecatches, and thus also in FUNImation's subtitles. But at least it's not "Ranfun" or "Who." I can live with this! :D

Oh right, I should probably mention this.
While I will NOT be going to Otakon this year, I will be going to New York City over the weekend. :) Hopefully I can buy most of the stuff I want at the various Kinokuniyas in the area.
Mom and I plan on watching the 4th of July fireworks over the Hudson River, check out places like Times Square and Central Park, and go shopping at a big Japanese grocery store in New Jersey (our priorities lol). And we'll be staying in Manhattan so anything else in that area that we have time for. The closest I've been to New York up to now was a school trip to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, so I'm pretty excited.
Anyone have any tips for us to survive the big city? :O

I found this and feel like sharing. Here are a couple of really good English fandubs done by someone on Youtube. The lyrics are pretty close to the original and she's a good singer to boot. She's done more songs, but these two are my favorite. "Again" just gives me the chills. *__*
Well, I was in Kyon's shoes in the last episode, but this time I felt like Yuki. D: Oh god, no wonder she snaps.
Do they seriously think people are going to want to buy a DVD full of Endless Eight episodes? Well, I'm sure people will anyway, but this arc has very little rewatch value. Very very little. You can easily skip this episode, since it's essentially the same as the last one, except the animation isn't nearly as pretty and there's more ominous music.
How many more times are we going to go through this again? D: It would have been perfect if they ended it with this episode. *sob* I'm sure the animators and voice actors must be sick of this now too...

In my excitement for Heart Gold/Soul Silver, tonight I randomly decided I wanted to start over my Fire Red game and play it from the beginning (since I'd never finished my old game and didn't want to start from the middle). But first, I wanted to check out the team I had already.
Well. I'd totally forgotten that I had gotten a Mew at an event a few years ago. I can't just erase my official Mew...! D: And I have no one to trade with so there's no way for me to transfer it somewhere to save for later.
But I'm not sure where I am in this game. It's been a few years since I've played it. I'd last saved in Saffron City, and it looks like I still haven't defeated Sabrina, nor has Team Rocket taken over Silph Co. yet. The replay shows that the last thing I did was leave the Fighting Dojo, and it looks like I finished fighting everyone and gotten my Hitmonlee. I have faint memories of the Sevii Islands, but I can't remember whether I had done everything I needed to do there. (However, my Charizard does know Blast Burn.) The only Legendary Bird I'm missing is Moltres, so I've at least gotten through the Power Plant and Seafoam Islands. So...what was it that I needed to do for Team Rocket to take over Silph again...? I forgot. D:
Dammit, I want to play, but my memories of the game are so faint that I don't know where I should go from here. If it weren't for the Mew, I could just start over from scratch...
EDIT: OH SNAP. I have a Celebi on this game too. An official 10th Anniversary version. OTL

EDIT 3: Can I also just say that it annoys me how outdated I feel simply for playing a GBA? Stupid Nintendo DS and everyone trading through Wifi these days... I can barely get used to one platform before they come out with another. I'm not a serious gamer, I can't keep up with these things. D:

Okay, this episode was awesome for two reasons: KOIZUMI and YUKI. They seemed to really stand out in this episode, especially Koizumi, who never got much focus before.
I looooved all the subtle details in the animation. That scene where Koizumi jokes about telling Haruhi he loves her, he looked so sad for a split second... And Yuki and Kyon's interaction was awesome (gah, poor Yuki).
I appreciated that they didn't just reuse the animation from the last episode, by adding or expanding on scenes or outright changing them in little ways. I liked noticing all the details, such as the different bathing suits and yukata and Yuki buying a different mask.
But jeez, they still haven't wrapped up this storyline. It's going to continue for another episode?! They're really trying to make the audience sympathize with the characters' deja vu, aren't they? XD; I don't mind seeing it stretched into three episodes except for the fact that it takes away from the number of other stories to be adapted...there's only going to be 10 new episodes left...
Oh, but this is pretty interesting:
They're gradually disappearing! 8D HELL YES! Come to think of it, the lyrics for this ED is very fitting for the Disappearance story. *excited!*

So I finally posted part of the next chapter of my ongoing Gurren Lagann fanfic (which is what I was talking about over here). I was worried how people would take the direction the story was going in, but so far it seems to be getting a good reaction? :D;

Also, because I don't understand why I'm still the only one who's reviewed this, here's a fanfic rec for a very good Nia-focused AU:
The Dolls' House
"Honestly, you're far too beautiful to be killed, so I've been wondering if there is a way to save you. Perhaps you become the chief of this village?" Of course Nia refuses. But what if she didn't?
I also wanted to rec this fic called "Trephine the Heavens" which had Kamina and Simon as crazy drug-using delinquents in suburban America. The premise made me go LOLWHAT at first, but the writing was funny and witty and the characters were recognizable as being themselves while also fitting the setting. It just worked, and I was happy to find an AU fic like that. Unfortunately, it got deleted for some reason. D: I even gave it a nice review and added it to my community, so what happened??
EDIT: :3 VERY GOOD! AND THOSE ALIENS ARE SO FUNNY AND ANOOYING TELL ME IF YOU NEED EVIL IDEAS HEHEHEHHE! >:3 EVILNESS RULES PLZ GO ON BYE XD.

Hmmm apparently they're splitting this story into two episodes? I never read all of Endless Eight so I'm not sure what else is going to happen, this was just a cute summer episode to me. XD

Researching survival tips can be amusing if your characters happen to be not very bright, and also superhuman, and possessing iron stomachs. In a series that is entirely unrealistic in the first place.
I think I'm just going to ignore the existence of parasites though. XD; The chapter is slow enough without going into details like "And then they boiled their water!"

Some interesting things I learned from research while translating Gurren Lagann stuff today:
-I noticed that Enkidu has an attack called エンキラッガー that Viral tries to use in Gurren-hen (it wasn't named in the TV series). I wondered how I should romanize it and started to research it. Turns out the crest thingy on Enkidu's head is itself called エンキラッガー and the attack involves him pulling it out and using it as a weapon. Then I found out that this crest thing was a homage to Ultra Seven. Ultra Seven has an attack using the crest on its head called the "Eye Slugger," which has also been incorrectly referred to as "Ice Lugger."
So in the end, I decided to go with "Enki Lugger." :)
-In the second drama CD, Viral refers to Rossiu using the phrase "osore iriya no kishibojin." (恐れ入谷の鬼子母神) Looking up "kishibojin," I found out that's the name of a Buddhist goddess. First reaction: "What the heck? How do I translate this??" I continued looking and eventually found this. Turns out it's a play on words. The basic meaning is "to be awed/amazed." "Iriya" is an actual place in Tokyo, and "Kishibojin" is the deity of a famous temple in Iriya.
So not only have I gotten that figured out, but I've found an online databank for Japanese proverbs! \o/ SUCCESS!
EDIT: This drama CD makes me so hungry for ramen each time I listen to it. D:

I might regret writing this post later on, but here goes.
You know, I am aware that there is sexism in Gurren Lagann. I don't deny it. It's been improved a lot in the movies, but personally, it never bothered me too much even in the TV series because it was balanced by the fact that the women in the show are assertive, awesome, and when it comes to romance, usually wearing the pants in the relationship. I love all the female characters. Even if they're objectified at times, or don't have important roles, or end up being the damsel-in-distress, they still have their own personalities and strength of will.
( Thoughts mostly focused on the movies )

Btw, does anyone know how to use iMovie? How good of a program is it compared to Windows Movie Maker? :/

So, I've been trying to get myself to exercise more this year...
I can now do 61 sit-ups non-stop in one sitting! My goal is to get to at least 100.
...I'm going to celebrate this by eating some ice cream lmao. So much for losing calories. XD;

I just finished planning another future Gurren Lagann fic; this one is basically a complete rewrite of the Teppelin arc, with major differences being Nia fighting along with the beastmen and Kamina still being alive past the capture of Daiganzan. I know the latter has been done a lot, but I plan on going into detail on the repercussions it would have on Simon's development. My goal is to try giving Simon the growth he needs without killing Kamina, by making Simon and Nia catalysts for each others' development.
The story finally fell into place once I gave up forcing Kamina into being the main character. It was getting to be a problem because I found myself all excited planning Simon's character arc, yet totally neglecting Kamina's, and I just didn't have enough ideas to justify putting that much focus on him. But now that I've brought Kamina down to having a more minor role, I've been able to come up with a way to flesh him out in a way that even I find exciting. So that makes me happy.
The only problem now is that I don't know what to do with Yoko. I have a few scenes in mind for her, but other than that, at this rate she's just going to end up being Kamina's back-up/girlfriend/confidant the whole story, which makes me feel kinda bad. I mean, I'm even doing more with Viral and Rossiu than her. I can't seem to come up with a story for her without Kamina being dead. Would it be forgiveable since I'm using her so much in Sound of Pulling Heaven Down...? :(
Anyway, I won't be starting this fic until after I've finished SoPHD and watched Lagann-hen, so I still have a lot of time to think over it.
...I also just had another idea for a fic based on the Parallel Works 1 AU. I was already planning a fic using that AU that's mostly fluff and adventure, but this new idea involves Princess Nia turning into a witch a la Messenger Nia. I kinda hate myself for that, since this is supposed to be the happily-ever-after AU. :( I'm not sure whether I'm going to actually write it; it's tempting, but...it might hurt too.
